A United Healthcare Bariatric Center of Excellence

August 31, 2018

Central Carolina Surgery (CCS Bariatrics) in conjunction with Cone Health’s Wesley Long Hospital is pleased to announce our recertification as a UnitedHealthcare Bariatric Center of Excellence. As a premier achievement for Bariatric Resource Services nationwide, we are proud to be among the top tier of bariatric surgery centers in North Carolina and beyond. By receiving this bariatric surgery excellence award, we are able to demonstrate our commitment to both our patients and our community at large.

Qualifications as a Center of Excellence

UnitedHealthcare is a leader in identifying Centers of Excellence, or COEs, in numerous different medical specialties and services. A rigorous screening process that examines practices, hospitals, and medical facilities that focus on evidence-based quality-of-care protocols, UnitedHealthcare and OptumHealth are able to distinguish the best of the best.

COEs are designated as such for the benefit of patients, providing advantages that include:

  • A thorough review process and fine-tuned selection criteria
  • Improved surgical and medical outcomes that can result in cost savings over time
  • Effective benefit plans
  • Committed patient support by dedicated and highly accomplished clinicians
  • Lower rates of readmission
  • Lower rates of post-surgical complications leading to further treatment

The Influence of Obesity

As a bariatric surgery center, one of our primary objectives is fighting back against the growing prevalence of obesity in America. Today, obesity affects approximately one-third of Americans and is the second leading cause of preventable death in the country. As such, the costs of care for those with obesity-related conditions are quite steep, costing around $210 billion each and every year.

At CCS Bariatrics, we are dedicated to supporting those struggling with the many negative health consequences of obesity, including muscle and joint pain, cardiovascular and respiratory system complications, and the rise in diabetes type two. Through the use of medical and surgical weight loss techniques, we are able to help our patients lose weight safely and sustainably, develop healthier lifestyle habits, and achieve their long-term goals.

How Centers of Excellence Make a Difference

UnitedHealthcare Bariatric Centers of Excellence are the gold standard in weight loss care and management, offering resources that help patients see lasting results from leading surgeons and physicians in centers that emphasize best practices and cutting-edge techniques. In fact, COEs like CCS Bariatrics offer numerous advantages over non-certified bariatric surgery centers, including:

  • Higher surgical success rates
  • 16% reduction in hospital readmissions
  • A lower re-operation rate by 12%
  • Lower costs of care by over $4,000

At CCS Bariatrics, we remain committed to our patients, offering experience, expertise, and opportunities unavailable anywhere else. From our use of two board-certified bariatric surgeons in the operating room for every procedure to our focus on continuing education, we continue to strive to be the best resource for patients through the Triad area.
