Attend a Free Weight Loss Information Seminar
Bariatric surgery is life-changing, and patients need to have a clear understanding of the potential risks, complications, and lifestyle modifications involved with all medical weight loss procedures.
Our free weight loss information seminars are designed to provide you with the information you need to decide if you’d like to pursue bariatric surgery. You’ll hear from our surgeons, listen to patient testimonials, and be invited to ask questions about us and our bariatric surgery clinic.
Complete Patient Profile Forms
The next step is to complete our patient information package, which includes in-depth information about your medical history and your past attempts to achieve a healthy weight. Call us to receive a copy.
We will also contact your insurance provider on your behalf to establish your eligibility for either partial or full insurance coverage for bariatric surgery.
Meet With Your Bariatric Surgeon
You will meet with your bariatric surgeon to decide if weight loss surgery is right for you based on your current weight, your medical profile, and your future goals. Your surgeon will review the different types of bariatric procedures with you and answer any questions you might have.
If you choose to undergo a weight loss procedure, your surgeon will order lab work and tests as part of your bariatric surgery prep.
Preparing for Weight Loss Surgery – Education, Diet & Exercise
Bariatric surgery prep is different from other pre-surgical protocols. When you have gastric banding, a gastric bypass, or revisional surgery to correct concerns with a previous procedure, the success of the surgery largely depends on patient compliance with diet and exercise guidelines both before and after the operation.
Patient Education & Emotional Readiness
Weight loss surgery isn’t a cure for obesity – it’s a medical treatment that is most successful when the patient is fully engaged, educated, and committed to making major changes in their lifestyle.
We encourage each of our patients to learn as much as they can about their bariatric surgery by attending our support group meetings and involving family members and friends in their weight loss journey.
Pre-Surgical Diet & Exercise
Making major changes to your diet and exercise habits before your bariatric procedure can help reduce the risks of surgical complications, improve your outcomes, and give you the chance to address any concerns you have before your operation.
Before your bariatric surgery, you should:
- Stop eating foods that are fried, highly processed, or contain more than 9 grams of sugar or fat per serving
- Wean yourself off both sugar-sweetened and carbonated beverages, including diet soda
- Learn to drink at least 64 oz of water daily, and only drink between meals
- Make a habit of chewing your food at least 30 times per bite
- Eat small portion sizes
You should also be as active as possible to help reduce stress, high blood pressure and control your blood sugar levels. If you smoke or vape, you must quit smoking and vaping at least eight weeks prior to your surgery date.
